STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Structural engineering has been a reoccurring focus through our professional experience.  Our projects have included a full spectrum of industries and environments.  Industries include residential, commercial, municipal, industrial, power and process, and oil and gas.  We also have experience with a full range of site specific environmental conditions including costal, offshore, onshore, subsea and seismically loaded areas.

The Hatch residence is a 7,000+ square foot single family residence located on Hwy 98 across the street from the Gulf of Mexico.  This home was framed and ready for QuickTie insulation when hurricane Michael struck.  With incomplete strapping our design was hammered by the most devastating storm in United States history and stood strong with minimal loss.  New trusses were installed on the 4th floor roof and construction can continue.

Sonoco structural challenges include the design a roof to be installed over operational equipment.  The roof addition will be supported by existing steel which was installed in the late 1970's.  Structural drawings of the existing steel were not available for our design.  The Waste Paper Area Cover foundations will also have be designed and installed around existing foundation and operational equipment.

The Saltsburg residence was at one point the largest single family residence on Cape San Blas, Florida.  It features multi story vaulted ceilings, expansive open indoor and outdoor living spaces, traditional timber construction on a concrete pile and beam foundation.

Brazos 367 A-Aux is a braced caisson offshore platform supporting a compressor.  This structure was installed adjacent to an existing tripod in the Gulf of Mexico with a walkway, power and piping connecting the two independent structures.

Banyu Urip is an onshore compression facility located in Indonesia.  Loading concerns for this site included monsoons, typhoons and seismic activity with questionable structural soil quality.  Structures include foundations and structural steel supports for compressors, storage tanks, pipe supports, a flair tower and service buildings.

Sam Dong Georgia Inc., formerly ASTA in Waynesboro Georgia was a warehouse converted to a copper facility for ASTA.  Engineering challenges included designing foundations and equipment supports that could be installed inside of the existing structure and utilize existing equipment.  The major addition was a 100 foot tower installed in interior bays of the existing warehouse which would support up to three multi line copper annealing machines.  This was one of our first major assignments were project management and structural engineering activities were simultaneous.
